On Sunday 23rd October Antiques Roadshow introduced by Fiona Bruce and filmed at the National Trust property at Baddesley Clinton near Solihull featured a lovely Fred Yates oil painting.
Dealer Philip Mould chatted with the owner about the history of the painting entitled The Nudist Colony Annual Dinner Dance. Discussing Fred Yates with reference to his contemporary L S Lowry and the sophistication of his work which is often overlooked by the establishment. The painting is a typical Fred Yates ‘funny’ full of the joy that the artist managed to squeeze from his paint tubes and onto his canvases. Fred Yates wanted his work to hang in all rooms of a house and would have been pleased that this one resided in the owner’s bathroom.
A valuation of £5000 – £6000 was Philip Mould’s estimate.
