In 1984 Fred Yates provided a series of wonderful illustrations for the book “Whatever Happened To Sunday Best” by a friend Joyce Irwin. The book recalls the enchantment of a village childhood in Cheadle Hulme between the wars. The illustrations are full of typical Fred Yates characters and are a testament to what a great draughtsman Fred Yates actually was. The book is hard to find now but it is well worth searching out a copy.
